Most of my work is on websites someone else built. Often the site is fine and a handful of fixes gets it found: the right details on Google, a form that works, a page that loads on a phone. I'll tell you honestly whether you need a new site or not.

WordPress powers about 40% of the web, which means your website isn't locked to any one company — including me. You own everything, and any developer can work on it. I keep it that way: no lock-in, no proprietary tricks, full access to your own site at all times.

Getting found on Google

Why is my business not showing on Google Maps?

Usually one of four things: the Google Business Profile isn't verified, it's in the wrong category, your address or service area is set up badly, or Google has found conflicting details about you elsewhere on the web. A new or thin profile with no reviews also struggles to show up against established competitors nearby. I check all of these in the Technical SEO & Get Found Audit.

Why is my website not showing on Google search?

First, check whether Google knows about it at all: search for site:yourbusiness.ie. If nothing shows, the site may be blocked from indexing (a leftover "discourage search engines" setting in WordPress is a classic), missing a sitemap, or too new. If it shows but doesn't rank, the problem is usually thin content, slow pages, or pages that don't say clearly what you do and where you do it.

How long does SEO take to work?

Technical fixes, like unblocking a site or fixing a broken sitemap, can show results within days, because Google simply starts seeing pages it couldn't see before. Ranking higher for competitive searches takes longer, typically months. For a local business, getting the Google Business Profile and website details right is often the fastest win.

How much does SEO cost in Ireland?

One-off audits run roughly €450 to €3,000 and monthly retainers €250 to €2,500, depending entirely on what's actually included — I've published the real Irish prices and what each band buys you. I sell one thing here: a fixed-price Technical SEO & Get Found Audit (€450), with a free 5-point check first. You get a prioritised list of what's stopping people finding you, and you can fix it yourself, have your developer do it, or ask me.

What is a technical SEO audit?

It's a check of everything that affects whether search engines can find, read and trust your site: crawlability, indexing, sitemaps, page speed, mobile experience, structured data, titles and descriptions, broken links and security. Mine also covers your Google Business Profile and whether your contact details are consistent across the web, because for a local business that matters just as much.

Costs and what I do

Do you build new websites?

No. I stopped taking on web design and new builds. Everything I do now is work on websites that already exist — fixing, speeding up, maintaining, migrating and auditing them, including sites built by somebody else. If you need a site built from scratch, ask me and I'll point you at someone good.

Do I really need a website for my business?

Not always. A busy tradesperson with a full diary and a good Google Business Profile can do fine without one. But if you want new customers to find you, compare you and trust you, a website is the one place online that you fully own and control. Social media and directories can change the rules overnight.

Who owns my website and domain?

You should. The domain should be registered in your name or your company's name, and you should have the logins for the domain, hosting and website. If a previous developer holds any of these, ask for them now, not when something breaks. When I work on a site, you keep full ownership and access.

How much is website maintenance per month?

Is WordPress still relevant in 2027?

Yes. It still runs a huge share of the web, it's open source, and you're never locked in to one company. But it's not the only option any more, and for a simple site it's not always the best one. I'll tell you honestly which fits your business.

Is WordPress good for SEO and small businesses?

WordPress gives you everything you need to rank well, but it doesn't do it for you. Slow themes, too many plugins and missing basics hold a lot of WordPress sites back. Set up properly, it's an excellent platform for a small business.

How do I fix a WordPress critical error?

"There has been a critical error on this website" almost always means a plugin, theme or PHP version conflict, often after an update. Check your admin email: WordPress usually sends a recovery link. If that doesn't work, or you'd rather not touch it, I'll fix it, usually the same day.

Why is my WordPress site not loading?

The most common causes are an expired domain or hosting account, an SSL certificate problem, a hosting outage, a plugin that crashed the site, or a hack. If you see an error message, note it down. It tells me a lot. If you see nothing at all, check that your domain and hosting bills are paid.

How often should I update WordPress plugins?

Security updates should go on within days. Other updates can be done weekly or monthly, but always with a backup first and a check afterwards that the site still works. That's exactly what the €49/month plan does.

WordPress, Wix or Squarespace?

Wix and Squarespace are quick to start and fine for simple sites, but you rent them, and moving away later is hard. WordPress takes a little more care but you own it, and any developer can work on it. If you're unsure, ask me. I move sites in both directions.
